Garden storage box

Introduction
#

About 6 months after acquiring a plot in a nearby community garden complex, it’s time to build a storage box for the gardening tools. Some of them are quite long (more than 1.5m), so we need a wide box to fit them all in.

Rather than buying all the supplies at a regular hardware store, I thought it’d be nice to try build the box completely out of reclaimed wood. It so happens there’s a store called Buurman Utrecht that stocks a vast variety of reclaimed materials. They have everything from wood to sinks and from fasteners to hinges. The staff was very friendly and offered to cut all the wood to size for a small fee. Many of their products have a story attached. It turns out the lid of the box is a piece of concrete plex that served as flooring in a police bus.

The only thing that’s not reclaimed in this build are the fasteners and brackets. Total cost was about €230, not bad!
